Easy Cherry Chocolate Cake

Use convenience products to your advantage to make the best chocolate cake recipe that no one will guess came from a box. This is a chocolate cake you will want to eat over and over again.

Serves: 12

Cooking Time: 30 min

Ingredients
  • 1 box Devil's Food Cake Mix, reduced sugar or organic
  • 21 ounces light cherry pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 eggs or 4 egg whites, beaten
  • 1 cup sugar substitute suitable for baking
  • 5 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup skim milk
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet dark chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
     
  2. Grease and flour 13x9-inch pan.
     
  3. In large bowl, combine cake mix, pie filling, almond extract, and eggs. By hand, stir until well mixed. Pour into greased and floured pan.
     
  4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
     
  5. In small saucepan, combine sugar, butter and milk. Bring to a boil stirring constantly for 1 minute.
     
  6. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Pour and spread over warm cake.
