Budget Friendly Chocolate Cake

The best moist chocolate cake recipe does not have to cost an arm and a leg to make. With simple, affordable ingredients, make the best chocolate cake recipe within your budget.

Cooking Time: 35 min

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup butter substitute suitable for baking
  • 3/4 cup sugar substitute suitable for baking
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour, white whole wheat or all-purpose
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 pinch salt
Instructions
  1. Grease and flour a 12x8-inch tin.
     
  2. Cream butter substitute and sugar substitute until light and fluffy. Add egg whites and beat thoroughly. Stir in honey, maple syrup and vanilla.
     
  3. Dissolve baking soda in milk.
     
  4. Sift dry ingredients and stir into the butter substitute mixture alternately with milk. Mix well. Pour into prepared tin and spread evenly.
     
  5. Bake at 365 degrees F for 30 - 35 minutes.
     
  6. Turn on rack to cool. Ice with chocolate icing and sprinkle with coconut or chopped walnuts if desired.
